Thursday, Polina Leykina
[13] (RUS) upset Heather Watson [1] (GBR), the G18s
number one seed and Eddie Herr 2008 G18s singles
finalist, 7-6(6), 6-4. After losing the first set in a
tiebreak, Watson found herself down 1-4 with Leykina
serving. Watson hung tough to break and keep it close,
but Leykina ultimately prevailed to take the second set
6-4 and end Watson’s hope of adding the Eddie Herr title
to her resume. Leykina will face Zsofia Susanyi [8]
(HUN) Friday in the quarterfinals.
Fourteen-year old Madison Keys (USA) continues to
navigate through the G18s draw without much difficulty.
She dismissed Magda Linette [12] (POL) 6-3, 6-1 in the
round of sixteen Thursday. Keys, who is the 2007 Eddie
Herr 12s champion, will meet Di Zhao [WC] (CHN) in
Friday’s quarterfinal action.
In other G18s upsets, Valeriya Solovieva [11] (RUS)
defeated Nastja Kolar [5] (SLO) 6-2, 6-4 and Gabriela
Dabrowski (CAN) beat Saisai Zheng [10] (CHN) 6-2, 6-3.
B18s
After getting the better of the B18s number one seed on
Wednesday, Jack Carpenter (GBR), kept his momentum going
with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nick Chappell [WC] (USA) on
Thursday. He is set to square off against Mitchell Frank
[5] (USA) Friday in the quarters. In other B18s action,
Mark Verryth [Q] (USA) took out Arthur De Greef [6] (BEL)
4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
B16s
Luis Patinao [Q] upset Dominic Thiem [5] (AUT) 7-5, 6-3
in B16s action Thursday to earn a spot Friday’s
quarterfinals.

Yet to drop set in the tournament, Sachia Vickery [1] is
living up to her seeding in the G16s. Her latest victim
was Laurie Gingras [15] (CAN) 6-1, 6-0. Vickery will
play Ximena Siles Luna [6] (PER) in the quarters Friday
at 9:00 a.m.
Breaunna Addison (USA) has been quietly working her way
through the seeds on her way to the quarters. Addison sent
fellow American Ashley Dai [10] (USA) home on Thursday
with a 6-4,1-6,6-1 win; that was the first set she lost in
the tournament. She will next face Riko Shimizu (USA)
Friday at 9:00 a.m.
Other upsets were registered in that division on
Thursday, as well. Victoria Duval [16] (USA) outlasted
Elianne Douglas-Miron [3] (CAN) 6-7(9), 6-4, 6-4 and
Riko Shimizu (USA) beat Juliana Gajic [14] (CAN) 6-2,
6-1.
G14s
Madara Straume (LAT) ended the dream Thursday for
Estelle Cascino [Q] (FRA) with a grueling 4-6, 7-5, 6-3
win. The victory earns Straume a berth in the G14s
quarters where she will meet Erin Routliffe (CAN), who
upset Daria Sharapova [10] (BLR) 7-5, 6-2.
The G14s number two seed was sent packing by Pippa Horn.
With her 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Victoria Rodriguez [2] (MEX),
Horn advances to the quarters against Maria Tsakanyan
[8] (RUS). Katy Dunne [16] bested Josie Kuhlman [4]
(USA) 6-2, 6-3 and will play Domenica Gonzalez [6]
(ECU).
G14s semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday at 9:00
a.m.

advanced Thursday with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Karim Arem
[Q] (USA) in the B14s. He will face Roy Lederman [8]
(USA) in quarterfinal action Friday at 9:00 a.m.
Lederman defeated Thomas Tenreiro [9] (VEN) 6-3, 6-1.
Thai Kwiatkowski [13] (USA) persevered over Frederico
Silva [4] (POR) 2-6, 7-5, 6-2; he will compete against
Kyle Edmund [10] (GBR) in the quarters.
12s Singles Finalists are Determined
Seongchan Hong [1] (KOR) will battle Stefan Kozlov
[1] (USA) for the 2009 Eddie Herr B12s singles
championship Friday at 9:30 a.m. Kozlov is the 2008 B12s
Eddie Herr singles finalist.
Tornado Black (USA) will take the court Friday at 9:30
a.m. against Mariya Shishkina (USA) to determine the
G12s 2009 Eddie Herr singles champion.
