2008 FINAL RESULTS
Domijian Wins B18s Title
By defeating Julien
Uriguen (GUA) 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s B18s
final, Alex Domijan [14] (USA) has
joined the prestigious list of B18s
Eddie Herr champions.
Unaffected by the cold and gusty weather
conditions, the champ was able to
control the critical points and stay
ahead throughout the match. “I won key
points at the beginning, held most of
the match, and returned fairly well
today,” Domijan reflected. His opponent
agreed; “He [Domijian] played good
today.” Uriguen admitted he found it
difficult to play because of the wind.
Uriguen also admitted to feeling the
effects of the long, physically
demanding matches he played in previous
rounds during the past week. When asked
how he was feeling, his reply was, “my
whole body is hurting.”
Embree Crowned
G18s Champion
Lauren Embree [9] (USA)
made short work of Heather Watson Sunday
to capture the 2008 Eddie Herr G18s
singles title. Turning in a dominating
6-0, 6-1 performance, Embree took the
crown without losing a set in the entire
tournament.
“I knew she [Watson] was a really good
player, because she just won the Yucatan
tournament,” Embree said, “so I knew I
had to keep a lot of balls in play.” And
that’s precisely what she did,
controlling the points and eliciting
errors from her opponent.
Watson acknowledged Embree “played very
well today and I made a lot of errors.”
“I always believe in myself,” she
continued, “but I just didn’t have
enough today.”
Watson hopes to return to the tournament
next year. This is Embree’s last Eddie
Herr; she will attend the University of
Florida in the fall. |
