Cascino Upsets Pratt in G12s Singles Final
Estelle Cascino (FRA) was crowned the G12s 2008 Eddie Herr Singles Champion Friday after scoring a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Simone Pratt (BAH) in the final match.

The unseeded Cascino relied upon confidence and superior power to turn in a straight sets victory over her seeded opponent. This was the first meeting of the players, so neither knew what to expect.  Cascino said she felt very confident and “just played her game.” That proved to be a winning strategy.

Reflecting on her loss, Pratt said she felt she and Cascino both “played well; it’s just the way it went today.”

Cascino has won international tournaments in Europe.
 

Chung Wins B12s Singles Championship

Twelve-year old Hyeon Chung’s (KOR) killer forehand and aggressive all-court game propelled him to a 6-3, 6-3 win over Stefan Kozlov (USA) Friday in the 2008 Eddie Herr B12s singles final.

Using his powerful forehand as the centerpiece of his arsenal, Chung patiently worked the points, creating frequent opportunities to unleash forehand winners and crack winning overheads. Kozlov did not go down without a fight however; the 10-year old is an adept counterpuncher with a strategic sensibility that belies his age. Kozlov utilized well-executed lobs and drop shots in an attempt to keep Chung off balance. Ultimately, however, Chung’s power and height advantage proved too much for Kozlov (USA) to overcome.

Chung had match points on his serve at 5-2, but nerves got in his way and he was unable to convert. He was able to collect himself and break Kozlov at 5-3 to capture the set and the title.

This is Chung’s first singles title in an international tournament.
