perseveres to topple number one seed in three
sets
Nicole Bartnik (USA) and Laura Robson [1] (GBR)
exchanged barrages of penetrating ground strokes
over three sets this afternoon. In the end,
Bartnik ruined the number one seed’s
championship hopes. Relying on patience and
consistency, Bartnik prevailed 7-5, 3-6, 6-1
over Robson, who struggled with errors on her
ground strokes and first serves. Robson was the
2007 Eddie Herr 14s singles champion. Bartnik
will next meet Annie Mulholland (WC) (USA), who
upset Amandine Hesse [14] (FRA) 7-5, 6-1.
Gardiner coasts to second round of B14s
Tyler Gardiner [1] (USA) defeated Baker Newman
(USA) 6-1, 6-1 to advance in the B14s; he will
face Daniel Bednarczyk (CAN) in the next round.
Most of the seedings in this division held
today; however, three seeds suffered straight
set defeats. Jhonahan Gonzalez [6] (VEN) was
taken down 6-1, 6-3 by Maksim Kan (UZB), Robert
Livi (USA) beat Juan Galarza [9] ARG 6-4, 6-2,
and Alexios Halebian (USA) outdid Lukas
Mugevicius [15] (LTU) 6-1, 6-4.
12s semifinals set for Thursday at 9:30 am
The semifinalists in the 12s have been
determined. Geonju Shin (KOR) will face off
against Stefan Kozlov (USA) in one B12s semi and
Thanasi Kokkinakis [1] AUS will battle Hyeon
Chung (1) (KOR) in the other.
In G12s, the semis will feature Ksenia Laskutova
(RUS) against Simone R Pratt (1) (BAH) and
Domenica Gonzalez (ECU) versus Estelle Cascino (FRA).
The respective winners in each division will
meet on Friday to decide the 2008 Eddie Herr 12s
singles champions.
