Brito Upsets Zsilinszka (7), 6-2, 6-2

In first round Girls 18s
singles action today, 13-year old Michelle Larcher de Brito (POR) upset
seventh seed Reka Zsilinszka (USA) 6-2, 6-2. Larcher, who will turn 14
in January, received a wild card entry into the 18s; she is last year’s
Eddie Herr Girls 16s champion.
Other upsets of the day included American Anna Chkhikvishvili over
Venezuelan Gabriela Coglitore Silveris (16) 6-3, 6-3 in the first round
of the Girls 16s, and Yulia Putintseva (RUS) over Eugenie Bouchard [1]
(CAN) 6-2, 6-2 in the Girls 12s.
Jaehwan Kim (KOR) upset number one seed Lukas Mugevicius (LTU) 7-5, 3-6,
6-1in the fourth round of the Boys 12s. Other upsets in that division
included Justin Butsch’s (USA) defeat of Ilya Ivashka [1] (BLR) 7-5,
6-2; Yongjoo Jeong’a (KOR) win over Maxx Lipman [1] USA 6-1, 4-6, 6-3,
and Trey Strobel’s (USA) victory over Peter Arkhipov [1] (RUS) 3-6,
7-6(5), 6-3.
Seeding the 12s are based on order of merit from the player’s national
federation; as a result all seeds in 12s draws are all listed as [1].
