Orlik Named Eddie Herr
2006 Rising Star
History was made today at the Eddie Herr International
Junior Tournament. For the first time ever, the same two
players reached the finals two years running. This year's
G14 final featuring Hanna Orlik [3] (BLR) and Ajla
Tomljanovic [9] (CRO) was a carbon copy of the 2005 G12
final. Orlik emerged from both encounters with straight
set victories, this year besting Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-1.
Based on her championship performance, consistently
winning ways, and depth of talent, the tournament staff
names Hanna Orlik the 2006 Eddie Herr Rising Star Award
recipient.
Santos Plays Tough, Beats Bester
Nicolas Santos lived up to his number one seeding by
delivering a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Philip Bester (WC)
(CAN) in the B18 final. Santos played tough and
delivered few unforced errors to stay on top of Bester
throughout the match. Although Bester displayed a blend
of impressive power and deft touch, he suffered from an
inability to close out crucial points.
